It is with great sadness that the society must report the sudden passing of Tony Brown. Tony was a committee member of long standing, a lifelong steam enthusiast, and most importantly a friend to all who knew him.
Tony’s knowledge on many matters ran very deep. On Thomson Road Steamers it is likely that nobody will ever accumulate the knowledge the Tony had already pieced together, going to great lengths to build the story of these pioneering steam vehicles and being in touch with several national institutions. He was no less knowledgeable about other early steam pioneers and the extent of his wisdom was only matched by how forthcoming he was when approached on any of the subjects he had studied. Being from Soham, Fyson traction engines were of course a keen interest and again the history that he held in his head on the subject was without equal. His interests also ran to other spheres of the heritage world, particularly his love of Mecanno.
With his passing we have not only lost his great store of knowledge but also a true gentleman and friend who was always happy to talk to all who approached him on a broad range of subjects.
The officers and committee would like send their most sincere condolences to his wife Marie, and his parents Anita & Reg at this most difficult of times
