Club Members (and others) may be interested to hear news from the Long Shop Museum. As many will know, the museum is on the site of the former Garrett factory in Leiston, and a number of Leiston built engines are in residence.
The Museum is starting the year with a ‘Spring Steam-Up’ on Saturday 1st April, which will run from 10am-4pm. Admission will be £8.00 for adults, £6.00 for young people (16-21yrs) and £4.00 for children.
Attractions include the Leiston Royal British Legion Band, displays from local model engineers, classic cars, a blacksmithing demonstration, and Morris Men.
On a steam note, both the museums roller ‘Counsuelo Allen’ and the shunting locomotive ‘Sirapite’ will be in steam. Finally and perhaps most importantly it is hoped to have the unique Suffolk Punch steam tractor ‘The Joker’ returned to steam for the event. The engine hasn’t steamed for around twenty years (so far as we can work out) and work is currently underway to get it up and running.
