Holbeach Rally is a small show just across the Cambridge/Norfolk border in Lincolnshire. In addition to the usual selection of vintage vehicles and steam the show features the rather unique event of ‘Cabbage Tossing’ and the annual championship is held in the main ring on the Sunday.
Of more interest to our members perhaps would be the steam exhibits present. For the models the stand out exhibit had to be the fine 6” Foden Wagon presented in Darby’s of Sutton livery. With so many full size engines surviving that passed through Darby’s hands, it is nice to see an exhibit on the rally scene presented in their colours.
On the full size side of things, our Society Chairman Andrew Waling took his Foster Showman’s Tractor ‘Lord of the Isles’ which was parked up with Ivan Smith’s Aveling Roller and a fine pair of Model T Fords. Other engines included Alan Rundle with his Tuxford Portable and the small ex Pickfords Wallis & Steevens Tractor which is a regular feature on the local rally circuit.
The wet weather certainly hampered the Saturday, despite improving ground conditions. Luckily though turnout on the Sunday was vastly improved with most vehicles making it around the ring for the arena parades.
